The Insta360 GO 3S is uniquely suited for in-helmet POV (Point of View) shots due to its thumb-sized form factor. Achieving the "In-Helmet" look typically involves mounting the camera inside the chin bar or near the cheek pad to simulate exactly what the rider sees.
Here is a breakdown of the mounting setup and the resulting footage characteristics:
1. Mounting Hardware Options
To get the camera inside the helmet, you generally use one of two methods:
-
The Easy Clip: This comes standard with the GO 3S. It can be clipped onto the interior padding of the chin bar or the top brow of the helmet.
-
Adhesive Hook-and-Loop (Velcro): Many riders apply a small strip of industrial-strength Velcro to the inside of the chin bar and the back of the GO 3S standalone camera. This allows for a ultra-low profile fit that doesn't interfere with the visor closing.
2. Key Features for POV
-
True 4K Resolution: Unlike the previous GO 3, the 3S bumps the resolution to 4K, which is vital for POV shots where you want to see the crisp details of the motorcycle’s dashboard and the road ahead.
-
FlowState Stabilization: Even if the helmet vibrates at high speeds or during gear shifts, the internal 6-axis gyro keeps the horizon level and the footage smooth.
-
Hands-Free Voice Control: Since the camera is tucked inside your helmet, you can’t easily reach the buttons. You can use voice commands like "Start Recording" to trigger the shutter.
3. The Visual Aesthetic
-
The "Immersive" Look: Because the lens is sitting just inches from your mouth, the perspective includes the edges of the helmet’s chin bar and the handlebars. This creates a high sense of speed and realism.
-
Spatial Audio: Being inside the helmet acts as a natural windbreak. This results in much clearer exhaust notes and engine induction noise compared to mounting a camera on the outside of the shell.
